Meet Mary Holmes
Career Educator & Dyslexia Specialist
Mary is a career educator specializing in remediation for students with dyslexia or other language based learning differences. She earned her Masters degree in reading education from the University of Georgia in 1994 and then taught in public and private schools for 15 years. In 2008 she took training in the Orton-Gillingham approach at the Key Learning Center in Asheville, N.C., where she earned her Associate level membership of the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA). She has since completed the coursework and practicum for the Clinical level membership of OGA. Orton-Gillingham is a structured, systematic, explicit, multisensory instructional approach for teaching students with language deficits such as reading (decoding), spelling (encoding), and writing difficulties. While this approach is appropriate for all students, it is imperative for students with dyslexia. She is a devoted wife, mother and dog mom. You can catch her every Saturday cheering on her beloved Georgia Bulldogs.
